The Monument in Kurapaty has been Created by the Belarusan People

The victims of the Russian Communist terror against the Belarusan people have been buried in Kurapaty near Minsk. More than 200 thousands innocent persons have been killed by the butchers of the Russian secret police NKVD in the 1930-s – 1941 only on this place. During many decades the occupation authorities hid the truth about this crime trying to annihilate the tombs in Kurapaty. The actual pro-Moscow Lukashenka regime is continuing this immoral and blaspheme policy. But the Belarusan people know the truth about the tragedy in Kurapaty. 1988 the people begun the creation of the People’s Memorial on the tombs of the shot martyrs. The Cross is the principal element of the Memorial. Hundreds of crosses have been erected on the tombs. The Belarusan patriots are defending the Memorial from the acts of vandalism and the attacks made by the anti-popular regime which tried several times to annihilate the tombs and the crosses.

We are very grateful to the citizens of foreign countries which came to Kurapaty to respect the memory of the victims of the anti-Belarusan genocide. We are grateful to the diplomatic representatives which visit Kurapaty and place there the wreaths on behalf of their peoples.

But we are alarmed by certain facts. November 2, this year a group of the ambassadors from European countries has visited Kurapaty. They have placed there a wreath from the countries of the European Union. After the ceremony the ambassador of Germany Mr. Martin Hecker has told on the initiative to install some universal memorial monument in Kurapaty. Mr. Hecker has invited the present diplomats to discuss the projects of the monuments in December this year.

First of all we remind that a monument exists just in Kurapaty. This is the People’s Memorial “Forest of Crosses” which is distinguished by the harmonious expression of spirit, form and composition. It is necessary to adapt the new memorial monuments to the spiritual and formal structure of the People’s Memorial. There are the examples of the harmony between the general composition in Kurapaty and the new elements: the memorial monument “To the Belarusan People from the American People for the Memory”, the Cross from the Polish society and the Monument from the Jewish society in memory of the victims.

For the Belarusan people Kurapaty is the symbol of the struggle against the inhuman policy of the Russian empire. The Belarusan people is continuing this struggle. Now Russia is carrying on the policy of ethnocide and total russification of the Belarusan people in order to occupy the territory and enslave the people of Belarus. Russia is using its influence on the Lukashenka regime in order to do it. We consider this policy as the crime against the humanity based on the fascist ideology. But we see how the leadership and diplomats of Germany are carrying on the policy of the “understanding” of the interests of the Putin’s Russia in Belarus.

We remember how in November 2004 the ambassador of Germany Mr. Frieck had visited Kurapaty and told that “the Belarusan people has to share the total responsibility for everything including the negative pages of the Soviet history”. In accordance with this declaration the Belarusan victims of the Russian Soviet terror should share the equal responsibility with the killers. This absurd and blaspheme declaration by the Germane state representative has caused the indignation of the Belarusan society. But the Belarusans didn’t receive any response after they had sent the protest declarations to the German embassy and the Bundestag. We understand Mr. Frieck’s declaration and such behavior as the official position of the German political leadership.

In this connection we protest against the fact that the ambassador of Germany (or some other representative of Germany) would manage the activity in order to create and install some memorial monuments in Kurapaty.
