The Regime is Persecuting Mr. Siarhei Kavalenka for Political and National Reasons

During the last half-year the anti-Belarusian regime is violating the Law and brutally persecuting the brothers Siarhei and Vital Kavalenka in Vitebsk for political and national reasons because they are the bearers of the Belarusian culture and language and are true to the Belarusian National State Flag of Belarus. This Flag had been adopted as the State Flag by the Supreme Soviet (Parliament) of Belarus of the 12th convocation on September 19, 1991. The same Supreme Soviet has declared the state independence of Belarus in August 1991.

January 7, 2010 the member of the Conservative Christian Party – BPF Siarhei Kavalenka has erected the Belarusian National Stat Flag over the Christmas-tree on the central square in Vitebsk. The police officers have arrested and beat him very savagely. This police action was criminal because Mr. Kavalenka didn’t resist against the police officers. In January 2010 Mr. Kavalenka has been condemned to three years in jail on condition. Since this moment the regime is persecuting him in order to intimidate him and prevent the next actions with the Belarusian National State Flag. Mr. Kavalenka has been arrested, illegally sentenced and imprisoned several times. His brother Vital Kavalenka has been arrested as well.

The last time July 8, 2010 at 20.50 p.m. the police officers have blocked the entrance to the dwelling-house where Mr. Kavalenka lives. The police didn’t permit him to enter his apartment during ten minutes. At 21.00 p.m. the police has arrested him because “he didn’t return to his apartment after 21.00 p.m.” what is one of the conditions of his verdict. Mr. Kavalenka has been transported to the police station and imprisoned for 10 days.

Mr. Kavalenka has started the hunger strike in protest against the cynical lawlessness and brutality of the authorities. During 10 days of his hunger strike the administration didn’t permit to the Kavalenka’s family to hand him the clean water and didn’t permit to him to walk even one time a day in the court of the prison. The administration tried to undermine his health (Mr. Kavalenka has the problems with the hypertension).

The anti-Belarusian regime is persecuting the Belarusian for the democratic activity. This is the unprovoked aggression by the police against Mr. Kavalenka. Mr. Siarhei Kavalenka was illegally arrested and sentenced several times. These illegal sentences have the same status as the hostage taking. The police fabricated the reports on the non-existent violations of the Law by Mr. Kavalenka. The administration of the police prison has tried to undermine his health. The procurator’s office didn’t react on these violations of the Law and criminal actions by the police.

This information will be directed to the Belarusian society and the Amnesty International.
