about the actions of the Lukashenka's regime
on April, 26, 2000

The authorities and the citizens of Belarus celebrated the 14-th anniversary of the Tchernobyl catastrophe in different ways. Lukashenka has carried out a “triumphal” visit to the radioactive contaminated provinces of the Gomel region. He convinced the people that it is necessary to live and work in this area. He gave as present many new tractors to the collective farms to rise the harvest in the radioactive contaminated area. The illegal authorities will continue the Tchernobyl experiment on the population of Belarus. Lukashenka told about it cynical and even with humor (he has promised peasant-woman to help her when she became ill). It was demonstrated to the whole country how dangerous is to have a dishonou-rable man as the leader which is telling lies to the people in order to maintain his power and is continuing the crime started by the communist authorities of the Kremlin.

The same day some official memorial actions took place on the Bangalor Square, where the people likes to walks with dogs, on the swampy soil. At first many persons have been gathered by the authorities (which are carrieng out the inhuman Tchernobyl experiment). And in the evening the swampy opposition has brought many thousands of citizens to the same place, to the swamp (to protest against the same inhuman experiment). The authorities have kindly authorised to lead the march “Way of Tchernobyl — 2000” to the outskirts of the capital, farther from the offices, where the functionaries are seating and governing the country — the functionaries guilty of the Tchernobyl crimes. The authorities wuold show to the international society that the opposition has right to carry out the march (where the regime has authorised), has right to take part in “the dialog” and in “the elections” organised in accordance with the scenario of the regime.

The organizers of the march to the Bangalor Sq. knew that it is very advantageous to the regime to lead the people to the swamp. We told them about it before the action. Now the regime is trying to drive the people like cattle to the swampy square, and then to Russia. The swampy opposition has adopted this new for the tradition of the Tchernobyl anniversaries and shameful route in accordance with the treaty concluded with the authorities.

Members and supporters of the Belarusan Popular Front “Adradzennie” and of the Conservative-Christian Party — BPF, have decided not to leave the Jakub Kolas Square and to express their protest in the center of the capital. When the “swampy leaders” have started their march to the Bangalor Sq., some hundreds of the demonstrators remained on the J. Kolas Sq. It was announced the appeal of the Chairman of the Belarusan Popular Front “Adradzennie” and of the Conservative-Christian Party — BPF Mr. Zianon Pazniak “Down with the occupational Tchernobyl!”(blr). The people has honoured the memory of the victims of the Tchernobyl catastrophe. The demonstrators sang the religious and patriotic songs. The deputy chairman of the Conservative-Christian Party — BPF Mr. Siarhei Papkou has invited the people to the anti-fascist meeting on May, 8, 2000 which will take place on the Janka Kupala Square.

Many persons came to the J. Kolas Sq. and the number of the demonstrators began to rise. Then some buses have been driven up to the square. Tens of officers of special forcers dressed in black uniforms, black helmets and masks have attacked the people beating them with the batons. Some persons have been arrested. Among them were Zmitser Zhurauchyk, Andrei Satsupa, 16-years old Andrei Anufryeu and Andrei Mychyk, chairman of the Chashniki local organization of the Conservative-Christian Party — BPF. In accordance with the information of the MPs of the Supreme Soviet of the 12 convocation these officers were like to the special units, which had occupied the building of the Supreme Soviet in April, 12, 1995 and had beaten the MPs of the oppositionary fraction of the Belarusan Popular Front. They does't represent the Belarusan units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The massacre of the peaceful people in the center of Minsk has been carried out by the bandits from the “anti-terrorist center” formed in Belarus and directed by the FSB of Russia.
